Recording artiste Don Yute has had quite an illustrious career. Since breaking on to the music scene in the ’90s, the entertainer has worked with the likes of international superstars Pitbull, Trina, and Trick Daddy.
He established his own record label, Golden Child, and worked closely with SoSo Def Records CEO and producer Jermaine Dupri. Don Yute then dropped the gold-selling singles, Sexiest and Hardcore Wuk, for So So Def Bass All Stars in 2008. And he has toured the United States of America with heavyweights such as G Unit, Omarion, Ying Yang Twins, Rick Ross and Musiq Soulchild.
Although he has achieved so much, the entertainer says he is not done yet. He has teamed up with Contractor Music Group to release a remastered version of his 2014 single, Stay Down. That track was a collaboration with internationally renowned artiste, Akon. Don Yute says that with new firepower now behind the song, he believes it will go places.
“The song, Stay Down, has real hit potential. When it came out a few years ago, it was like a little leak thing, so we never really pushed it. But now, we’ve remastered it and we’re ready to work it now. Akon has always loved the Jamaican culture and the music, and so he’s all about pushing the song. He’s always told me this is the record, the big one. It’s like a Damian Marley-Nas connection. Now is the time for the people to really get this.”
Don Yute, who was born in Port Antonio, Portland, 46 years ago, is known for the songs Yuh Own Di Man and Loving Excess, done with Wayne Wonder. He also a strong working relationship with Akon, a Senegalese-American singer and producer of tremendous weight.
“Akon has been a huge supporter of reggae music from day one, and whenever we get together it’s just high energy. His work ethic is second to none and the passion he has for the music is just excellent. From the first day I met him, I knew he wasn’t a normal yute, and this song is just the beginning of more things to come from me and him,” Don Yute said.
“I can’t say much more than that, but there will be a lot to look forward to. Is a yute weh genuine in his love for the Jamaican culture and the music, and so working with him is always a pleasure.”
